Abstract

Culture and religion are two directions of life that are close to the people of Indonesia. Indonesia is referred

to as a religious country and a country rich in local wisdom that regulates how humans should behave. One

of the cultures familiar with hospitality and full of moral values in Indonesia is Sungkeman. Sungkeman

culture as a noble value must be practiced and preserved by all Indonesian people, especially the younger

generation.To facilitate this research, the researchers used qualitative research methods. This research was

conducted in the Hamlet of Tanggungan, Plumpang Village, Tuban City. Observations and in-depth

interviews were conducted to collect data.This study resulted in several findings including: First, is to know

that the sungkeman tradition is as an adhesive for harmony between religious communities, especially

fellow Muslims in Plumpang Village. Second, knowing the form of social capital applied in the

Sungkeman tradition. In addition, this study will investigate how the relationship between the sungkeman

tradition in building Islamic culture.
