Abstract

In Indonesia, the use of IT (Information Technology) systemized in the DBMS (Data Base Management System) is still not optimally implemented and utilized. The use of IT facilities is only used as an operational tool, and has not been used as a strategic tool to boost performance and reputation and increase the competitive advantage of institutions, especially educational institutions. In addition, web development is still static and only used to convey institutional information, not yet used as a web-based transaction tool or two-way communication tool. This article is a conceptual literature review about DBMS (Data Base Management System) and how it is implemented in educational institutions. In detail, the discussion in this paper includes the definition of a database, the meaning of a Data Base Management System (DBMS), types of database files, database models, database requirements and the application of database system management in an educational context. The conclusions that can be formulated are first, that the DBMS is an important component of information system management in educational institutions which needs to be manipulated according to the needs and complexity of educational institutions. Second, creating a school database must be adjusted to the budget and must be used optimally, because it requires quite a lot of money. Third, considering technological developments, especially digital technology, requires the use of database management systems to be implemented immediately in educational institutions.
