ETIKA PROFESI MENURUT AL-MAWARDI: PRAGMATISASI ADAB AL-DUNYA WA AL-DIN UNTUK MASA KINI
Islam has been synonymous with rituals and morals. Ritual is the behavior of God, while moral is the
behavior of fellow humans and other creatures. Islam is actually much broader than all that. Among his
breadth is his views on the economy. The legacy of classical Islam so far has been encompassed by three
disciplines, namely monotheism, fiqh and tasawuf, in addition to interpretation and hadith. All of these
sciences are still in the quasi-sacred realm. That is, matters of the hereafter are still so obvious in it.
Meanwhile, the biggest problem today's people are profane affairs, to be precise the economy. Is there a legacy
of classical scholars who have ever launched about the economy? This article is about to upload it. Based on
Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics, Hanafi tradition and modernization and then pragmatism, the
author will cultivate the views of al-Mawardi, one of the authoritative Sunni scholars regarding economics as
contained in his monumental work, Adab al-Dunya wa al-Din. Therefore, this paper contains two
formulations of the problem. First, how is economic ethics according to al-Mawardi in his work on this one?
Second, how to pragmatize the economic ethics he initiates? Therefore, this paper will lead to two
conclusions. First, a description of the various motives of a person in economics according to al-Mawardi.
Second, grounding Islamic economic ethics in countering the increasingly rampant economic capitalism.
