Islamic boarding schools (SBP) are one of the educational institutions that focus on developing religious
character in students. The purpose of this study was to describe the strategies carried out by educators at MA
Ma'arif 7 Banjarwati as a pesantren-based school in an effort to develop students' religious character, as well
as to analyze the extent to which religious character indicators have been achieved. This study uses a descriptive
qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. From the results of the research we got at MA Ma'arif
7 Banjarwati, the strategies for developing religious character that were implemented included: getting used to
praying before and after carrying out activities by holding a morning call before entering class to pray together,
or inviting students to read asmaul husna before teaching aqidah morals; holding commemorations of Islamic
holidays, such as commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, commemorating Isro' Mi'roj, Eid
al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, whose activities are adjusted to the commemorations made; learning to live in
harmony with the people around by greeting teachers/friends when meeting outside the classroom/outside
school; as well as implementing Islamic religious teachings related to the concepts of faith, Islam, and Ikhsan
through curriculum content that is realized in daily life both at schools, in Islamic boarding schools, and in the
community. This shows the achievement of indicators of religious character. So it can be concluded that the
development of students' religious character through Islamic boarding schools at MA Ma'arif 7 Banjarwati is
quite effective, so that the strategies undertaken can be implemented in other educational institutions.
